Dr. Brent R. Smith, PsyD

Dr. Brent R. Smith is the Founder of Arbor Hills Psychological Services. He has 35 years of clinical experience as well as past work in youth ministry and public education. He is a graduate of Spring Arbor College (1979) and holds graduate degrees from Youngstown State University (M.S. in Ed., 1983) and Biola University’s Rosemead School of Psychology (M.A. Clinical Psychology, 1985, Psy.D., Clinical Psychology, 1990). 

He has been licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist (California, 1987), Licensed Professional Counselor (Michigan 1993), and Clinical Psychologist (Michigan, 1995).  He has extensive experience in supervising graduate students, limited licensed clinicians, and consulting with community agencies, schools, and organizations. He serves as board chairman for a missions oriented non-profit NGO.

His training and experience in working with children includes public school teaching, school psychology, child abuse clinic counselor, out-patient private practice and father of three. He has worked with adolescents in regular classroom, alternative high school, group home, in-patient psychiatric, out-patient clinic and private practice settings.  Experience with adults includes graduate school adjunct faculty, consulting, in-patient and out-patient treatment with individuals, marital counseling, offender groups and geriatric assessment and day-treatment programs. 

Dr. Smith enjoys flying, golf, scuba diving, travel, hunting, and fishing.  He and Arbor Hills Psychological Services are committed to the preservation of the family unit while respecting and integrating each individual’s faith.
